An informal consultation about permanently introducing parking restrictions in two north Lakes areas badly impacted by obstructive vehicles has been launched by Cumberland Council.
The proposals for permanent double yellow lines to be placed between Portinscale and Grange and along the B5289 in Borrowdale are part of an overall review of a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) covering Keswick and the surrounding area.
The consultation also covers the introduction of disc parking along a section of High Hill, in Keswick, which will operate between 8am and 6pm seven days a week and offer resident exemption to those who reside immediately adjacent to it.
These proposals would replace the existing time-limited parking, which the council says is difficult to enforce as arrival times do not have to be displayed on a disc.
“These new proposals would bring this section of parking into line with other locations in Keswick, allowing for greater consistency,” said traffic management officer Philip Groom in a letter to invite comments and feedback prior to a formal advertisement being placed later in the year.
The proposals include plans to introduce loading bay restrictions outside the newly constructed Premier Inn.
“The parking restrictions will formalise the loading bay which was constructed as part of the development and a condition of the planning approval,” writes Mr Groom. “The restrictions will permit loading and unloading of goods vehicles only and operate 24 hours a day.”
Mr Groom says the informal consultation will be followed by a formal legal consultation later in the year.
The proposals have been forwarded to all local residents that may be affected by any changes brought into effect.
