A fell runner has been rescued after breaking his ankle in the Lake District in the midst of bad weather.
Keswick Mountain Rescue team were called out on Thursday 22 July to Doddick Fell, Blencathra.
A Bob Graham Round running party had decided against descending Hall’s Fell due to the poor weather conditions – opting for a safer route down Doddick Fell isntead.
Whilst going down the fell, one of the group slipped and broke his right ankle.
Rescuers approached from Doddick Farm and initially battled through very wet head-height bracken before emerging to continue up the fell path.
The runners were described as being in good shape despite the weather as they were equipped with a bivvi bag.
A group shelter was put over the casualty to offer more protection before his ankle was re-aligned with little pain relief.
Team members from Penrith Mountain Rescue helped boost Keswick’s team numbers for the steep stretcher carry down the fell to safety.
The incident lasted three hours and 11 minutes and involved 18 Keswick team members and nine Penrith team members.
