Former students and staff are to return to Keswick School next month for a special day of music-making to mark the career of a long-serving teacher.
Marie Lee (previously Horseman) retired as head of music last month after 31 years and the reunion has been organised to celebrate her time at the school.
It will take place on Saturday September 30 and culminate in an afternoon concert at 4.30pm in the Queen’s Hall at the school.
Entry to the concert will be free and it will be performed by former students and staff. All are welcome to come and listen.
“We are looking for anyone who was involved in any of the choirs or vocal groups at Keswick School to come and join us on the day for a ‘sing from scratch’ session where we will sing some songs that the choirs and groups used to sing at school and prepare these to perform in the afternoon concert,” said Marie.
“If we have enough former members of MOVE (Keswick School’s Male Only Vocal Ensemble) that group will also rehearse and perform on the day.
“Anyone involved in the school instrumental groups is also invited to come along and get in touch as soon as possible so that we can organise an instrumental group to also rehearse and perform on the day.”
The concert/reunion is also open to any past students who wish to say hello and reminisce. There will be a chance to see the music department next to Crosthwaite Church and there is no pressure to perform in any way.
“It would be lovely to have you there to join in the fun,” said Marie. “We invite you to bring and share refreshments during the interval of the concert.”
Approximate timings for the day are as follows:
- 1pm to 2pm: Soloist soundchecks/rehearsals in the Queen’s Hall;
- 2pm to 3pm: Instrumental ensemble rehearsal / MOVE rehearsal;
- 3pm to 4pm: Choir rehearsal;
- 4.30pm to 6.30pm: Concert in the Queen’s Hall.
Anyone who wants to get involved in any way or get in touch should contact either Rory McDonald at Keswick School or Marie Lee on [email protected] for further details of the reunion.
