The wife of a man who was airlifted from Catbells after suffering a fall has praised everyone who came to his aid.
The 66-year-old man tripped and tumbled down a steep rocky slope, sustaining a dislocated shoulder and cuts to his head on Wednesday morning.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was deployed along with the North West Air Ambulance. Unfortunately a technical difficulty with the helicopter meant its departure was delayed by 25 minutes.
Team members arrived at the summit at the same time as the helicopter and the casualty was assessed and given pain relief. The man was then stretchered to the helicopter for transfer to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
In a post on the rescue team’s Facebook page, Pauline Foster said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to Keswick Mountain Rescue for today, my husband David was transferred from Catbells to Carlisle hospital by air ambulance. Unfortunately he has a break in his shoulder and requires surgery and a few cuts and bruises, but without your help, and a fellow walker named Dan from Stoke, as well as three other gentleman and a woman who stopped to help my son-in-law, grandson and our dog Woody, the situation could have been more serious. We are truly grateful for everybody’s help.”
