Half-size plots are to be offered on allotment land that Keswick Town Council manages in an effort to cut the waiting list.
There are currently around 10 people wanting an allotment on land that the council rents at the Hawthorns, on Penrith Road, which it sub-lets out to residents of Keswick and neighbouring parishes.
The council feels it is a smart idea to offer half size plots, allowing any of the current tenants to reduce if they wish, and potentially manage the waiting list.
Council clerk Vivien Little told the September meeting of the council that some people on the waiting list had indicated that they would be happy to take on a half-size plot.
It was also agreed the Cllr Louise Dunn would act as an informal volunteer, keeping an eye on the site, and if there appear to be any issues with the plots, bring them to the attention of the town clerk.
