A new George Fisher is to move to Keswick — but this new enterprise will not be selling outdoor clothing and equipment.
Instead, this George Fisher is a craftsman known for his bespoke designs of kitchens and fitted furniture.
George Fisher Woodwork is preparing to move into new premises in the town this autumn from where The Gallery Collection will be launched.
The business has been working with clients to develop, design and build unique pieces in people’s homes in the Cotswolds for more than 15 years and George has already moved his family to Keswick and has fulfilled a long held dream.
“I have wanted to live in the Lakes, since I first visited aged nine and at long last I have been able to make this happen,” said George, who is married to psychotherapist Claire Barry and whose two children will be attending St Herbert’s School.
“It is only fitting that I launch a new line of furniture to mark this very special moment. I look forward to developing my bespoke design and woodwork business locally.”
The Gallery Collection is a range of free-standing furniture built to clients’ individual needs.
The side tables, bedside tables, and benches feature pierced octagonal legs, and come in a range of hardwoods including oak, walnut and cherry, while a bespoke drinks cabinet, inspired by the opulence of the 1920s, has an inlaid brass bar, mirrored back and baize lined cocktail drawer.
George originally studied forestry at Bangor University before pursuing a career in motor sport engineering. In his late 20s he combined his love of wood with the technical precision of engineering to develop George Fisher Woodwork.
Over the years he has designed and created hidden entrances to en suite bathrooms disguised as wardrobes, sweeping oak staircases, bespoke boot rooms, kitchens with 160kg steel worktops, panelled rooms and even renovated an Oxford punt.
