A resolution to dissolve the Association of the Friends of Keswick Museum was unanimously supported at a special general meeting held last Thursday night.
The committee now has a meeting on November 14 to devise an action plan as to how the dissolution process will proceed from December 1.
Following the vote, there was a discussion about how any remaining monies might be distributed, and several suggestions were tabled.
The group was set up 20 years ago to increase awareness of Keswick Museum and its collections and earlier this year the Reminder reported that it was in danger of being disbanded because it did not have a ‘viable’ committee.
The association was also formed to encourage, support and promote the attraction’s activities and to financially assist the museum with conservation and acquiring new collections and other projects.
“The general feeling of the meeting was upbeat,” said an association statement. “There was warmth, participation, openness and support – albeit it is a sad time and a difficult process.
“The association has very successfully succeeded in what it set out, 20 years ago, to do. Now, there is a will for our final contribution to be a lasting, tangible legacy – which we are able to do with the generous financial support from all members over the last 20 years.”
