A new team of volunteers has been trained in thermal imaging following a very well attended Retrofit Made Easy evening organised by Sustainable Keswick.
Four volunteers attended a training session which was conducted by Andrew Northrop and Alison Smith from Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) in a terrace house in Blencathra Street.
Two thermal imaging cameras were used and the training was very thorough. The initial meeting at the Crosthwaite Parish Rooms in October heard that one of the best ways to start retrofitting a home is to have a thermal imaging property survey done using special cameras which will help to determine just how ‘leaky’ of heat a home is.
Lorraine Taylor, who is the lead for the local volunteer team, said: “This was our first hands-on training with the thermal camera. Seeing the images the camera produced, showing the temperature range indicating heat loss and draughts, was fascinating. We now feel well equipped to undertake surveys.
“Britain’s homes are notoriously bad when it comes to energy efficiency. Sadly this applies even to new homes: just 1.8 per cent of new builds meet the top energy efficiency rating.
Anyone who lives in or close to Keswick, who would like to have a thermal imaging survey done on their home, should contact Sustainable Keswick by emailing: [email protected]. The service is free.
