Attractions in north Lakeland are to come under the television spotlight this evening.
The area is to be the focus of Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes which will be screened on BBC2 at 6.30pm.
One of the businesses the programme will focus on is the Kestrel Lodge camp site at Bassenthwaite which has been run for the past eight years by Louise Smith and her partner Andrea Bramhall. They are helped by Louise’s parents David and Susan Smith.
During the episode, Mr Green, who visited last May, spends a night in one of the camp site’s yurts and interviews Louise about the business and how it came about. The site used to be a Christian centre and hostel before it was bought by Louise.
Louise has already seen the programme on the iPlayer and said it shows the area in a good light with a number of aerial shots.
“It shows me welcoming him and him looking round and spending the night here. He then gets some eggs from my hens and then goes and cooks breakfast,” said Louise. “It’s good for Bassenthwaite and the north Lakes and shows that the Lake District does not stop at Keswick.”
Also featured is Honister Slate Mine where Mr Green took part in the all-day pass, an activity that involves descending a mountain gorge and swimming through crystal-clear pools.
The series returned earlier this month after its hugely successful debut last year and continues to showcase the best of Britain’s natural beauty and outdoor pursuits.
His visit to the attractions focuses on the importance of good mental health and slowing down the pace of life.
