A Keswick couple have celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss with family and friends at the town’s Skiddaw Hotel on last week.
Derek and Doreen Forsyth (née Jackson) first met on Windebrowe Avenue when he pulled over on his motorbike, dressed head to toe in his black leathers, and asked her out on a date to the cinema.
They were married at St John’s Church, Keswick, on January 11 1964. The couple have lived on Latrigg Close, Keswick, for the whole of their married lives and have three children, Mark, Carole and Stephen; seven grandchildren, Kerry, Richard, Grant, Genna, Ryan, Freya Finlay; and two great grandchildren, Tommy and Darcie.
Derek has been a painter and decorator in Keswick all his working life while Doreen was a dinner lady at Brigham School.
There are further celebrations on the horizon as in August three generations of the Forsyth family will gather together for a holiday in Ibiza.
Mr Forsyth said the key ingredient to a long and happy marriage is knowing that your wife is always right.
