An inquest has been formally opened into the death of a Keswick man whose body was found in the town’s River Greta last month.
Cockermouth Coroners’ Court heard on April 11 that Christopher Thwaites, aged 52, was reported to have died on March 16.
“The circumstances reported to the court in respect of the death of Mr Thwaites are that a body was found in the River Greta, opposite Keswick fire station,” said Robert Cohen, one of His Majesty’s coroners for Cumbria.
“In those circumstances it is appropriate that I should open an inquest into the death of Mr Thwaites and I do so.”
Formal identification of Mr Thwaites had been provided by his partner in a signed and dated statement, the coroner noted.
Mr Cohen adjourned the inquest into the death of Mr Thwaites to a preliminary date of September 3.
