A Keswick Indian restaurant’s plans to replace its front elevation door and windows has been refused by the Lake District National Park Authority.
The owners of The Sultan of Keswick in St John’s Street wanted to change the single-glazed windows with bi-fold ones that have a more regular design.
A planning officer reported that as a result of the “thick and bulky appearance” of the detailed design and the scope for the windows to be opened fully onto the street, the development would harm rather than preserve or enhance the character of the Keswick conservation area and would be harmful to the character and appearance of this part of the town.
Keswick Town Council had objected to the option of having folding doors on the street frontage which it considered inappropriate in a non-pedestrianised area with frequent traffic.
