Significant work is needed to repair a puddle-strewn footpath linking Keswick and Portinscale which has been the focus of numerous complaints over the years.
Clerk Vivien Little told the April meeting of Keswick Town Council that she had been speaking to the Lake District National Park Authority’s northern ranger in the light of some fresh complaints about the state of the Howrahs footpath.
“The gist of it is that it will have to have significant work done on it which Cumberland Council are not prepared to pay for without third party assistance,” said Ms Little.
“I spoke to the ranger on Tuesday and I am now prepping a report for the next town council agenda.”
Leonard Will, a member of the public who attended the meeting, said that he raised the issue about the lack of progress on repairing the footpath at the annual town meeting last year.
He said that he had written to Cumberland Council in September and the local authority had replied saying that there was going to be a review of routes which would also include the footpath along Borrowdale Road.
Mr Will said that not having heard anything, he again contacted the council in December to ask about progress and to see whether he would be able to see a copy of the review report.
He said that he was referred to the information governance department which said that someone would be in touch within 20 days.
Having not heard anything he made contact again and was told “that it would be dealt with by May 15”.
