A couple who run the Fox Tap bar at Keswick Brewery were presented with a certificate after the establishment was voted Pub of the Year 2024 by members of the West Cumbria branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Sue Jefferson and Nigel Green received the award last week from Keith Earnshaw.
“The Fox Tap has built up a loyal local following,” says a statement on the West Cumbria CAMRA website. “There are usually half-a-dozen hand pumped beers on sale plus a similar number of keg beers, all of which are brewed on site.
“Most of their real ales are unfined. They obviously travel well as their beers are always fresh!’
“The bar only trades for 25 hours a week – Tuesday to Saturday 2pm to 7pm. This is an extremely friendly bar and service is excellent. It has plenty of outside seating and dogs are welcome.
Among the runners-up in the pub of the year vote was The Sun at Bassenthwaite.
The Keswick Brewery is celebrating 18 years of operating in the town this year. It was established by Sue in 2006 on the site of a brewery that closed in 1897 and she opened the public bar in 2019 and since then it has won many accolades for its quality of ales.
