Town councillors have agreed to explore the possibility of Keswick getting a new multi-bank cash machine.
The new ‘super’ ATMs are designed to be able to take free cash deposits and cheques as well as provide the usual services.
They are set to be launched across the UK to allow users to make deposits with multiple banks and have already started to appear in areas where there are no longer any banks.
Councillors agreed that with the closure of banks in Keswick and the post office no longer opening on a Saturday morning, having one in the town would be beneficial to those unable to make cash deposits during the working week.
The machines will offer access to cash services such as withdrawals and balance enquiries. They will also enable free cash deposits to customers of Barclays, Halifax, Bank of Scotland, Lloyds and NatWest.
The council had been contacted by a member of the public about having one of the machines installed and clerk Vivien Little recommended that members agree to contact the company providing the service to consider Keswick as a venue for one of the ATMs.
