Emergency services called to reports of a boat fire in the Lake District were relieved to learn it was a false alarm.
Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard rescue teams were mobilised as part of the response after a 999 call that a boat was ablaze on the shores of Derwentwater, Keswick, yesterday, Monday August 12.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “With multiple teams en route, colleagues from Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service arrived on scene and provided the welcome news that it was in fact a controlled fire on private land close to the water’s edge. With this information provided, we were stood down.
“While thankfully not the case today, it serves as an opportunity for us to remind boat owners to routinely check and confirm your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are fitted and working correctly onboard, just as you would at home.”
