A major search was launched for a man who was swept away in an inflatable canoe.
Three men planned to travel the River Derwent in Borrowdale from Rosthwaite to Derwentwater yesterday, Wednesday August 28, at around 1pm.
One man got in and the boat took off in the strong current.
The others left on land searched for 40 minutes before reporting their friend was missing.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, which was called out, said: “Poor phone reception meant gathering further more precise information from the informants was difficult.
“Team members were deployed from Keswick boat landings and Portinscale Marina to search the lake and river.
“Cumbria Fire and Rescue, West Cumbria Search & Rescue and the Coastguard helicopter were also tasked to the search.
“Cumbria Fire and Rescue found the missing ‘sailor’ safe and well on the road downstream of Grange, he was oblivious of the search.
“The helicopter was stood down before it had deployed. Thanks to all who were preparing to deploy including Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team.”
