A Keswick hostelry has been recognised for its friendly atmosphere and the quality of food and drinks it serves by being a finalist in the Great British Pub Awards.
The Twa Dogs Inn, on Penrith Road, was one of six establishments short-listed for the Marston’s Pub of the Year accolade but missed out to the Griffin, a student pub in Loughborough.
Landlord Chris Bridge travelled down to Manchester for the awards ceremony at the Victoria Warehouse on Tuesday with assistant manager Jane Tyson and apprentice Faye Dixon. The awards were hosted by actor Ralf Little who had a starring role in The Royle Family.
The awards are recognised as a hallmark of excellence in the food and drink industry and recognise outstanding pubs across the UK. Each year, judges sift through an overwhelming number of entries to highlight the best of the best.
“There are 1,600 Marston’s pubs and six of us were finalists,” said landlady Emma-Jayne Bridge. “We had an independent judge come round and we also did a meet and greet and Chris was interviewed in a Zoom call.
“We have been here just over a year so to make it to a big award show like that is brilliant.
“It has been a bit of a miserable summer but we have got the builders on site at the moment building some outside gazebos so we will be able to make a bit more of the outside space. We have also got some patio heaters.”
Visitors frequently praise the Twa Dogs for its friendly atmosphere and variety of food options, making it a favourite spot for many, whether for a meal, an overnight stay or simply a drink.
The other pubs short-listed were the Aubrey Arms, Cardiff; the New Plough Inn, Hinckley in Leicestershire, The Star at Penkridge, Staffordshire and the Llangewedd at Bridgend, Wales.
