Keswick Mountain Rescue Team’s 120th call out of 2024 was unusual – after a walker believed they had found a hand grenade on Catbells.
He called the police while he was out on his walk on October 25 at around 5.15pm, who then dispatched two officers.
Keswick volunteers were asked to escort the officers to the location given.
The team said: “Details of the object were recorded by the police who then passed the information on to the relevant authorities who subsequently dealt with the matter.”
Cumbria police said once the suspicious item was located, it was assessed not to be an explosive.
Officers also made contact with the explosive ordnance disposal team, but their attendance was not required.
