A psychological horror movie is set to be shot in Keswick’s 111-year-old Alhambra Cinema by a north Lakes film-maker.

Twenty-seven year-old Joe J Walker’s film is called Beyond the Eye and is set to explore the deep themes that challenge perceptions of reality, mental health and the human experience. But he is keeping the exact plot of the film firmly under wraps.

“My vision is to craft a gripping film that stays with audiences long after they’ve left the cinema, sparking conversation and introspection,” said Joe, who already has several short films ‘in the can,’ with one notching up nearly half-a-million views on YouTube. “Filming in the Keswick Alhambra cinema will not only elevate the atmosphere but also immerse the audience in a space that itself feels like a character.”

Joe, who is duty manager at the Alhambra, says that he has been passionate about film-making since he was seven years old, when he made his first short film on his family’s camcorder.

“Now the opportunity to make a film in this incredible venue is really exciting,” he said.

The ‘early spark’ led him to pursue a degree in film and his short films have proved to be a hit online. “Each project has been an opportunity to hone my craft and push the boundaries of storytelling, and Beyond the Eye is the culmination of everything I’ve learned,” he said.

Joe, who has his own videography business called joejmedia, is Crowdfunding for the production costs and is already over half way to his £1,000 target. The funds raised will be used to ensure that he can deliver the highest production values possible to achieve a polished, professional final product.

Joe also plans to allocate some of the funds for marketing and distribution, so that the film can reach a wider audience.

Jonathan Moore, co-owner of the Alhambra, said: “We are really excited to be supporting a member of our staff to create an amazing film in our wonderful cinema. We can’t wait to host the premiere.”
