Three people – including a pregnant woman – who decided to drive over a closed Lake District pass to go for a drink had to be rescued.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out yesterday, Saturday January 11, to Newlands Pass at around 5.30pm.
The team said: “Three people who had no idea of the nature of the road decided that going over Newlands Pass in winter conditions for a drink in Buttermere was a good idea.
“Having passed the road closed sign, they fortunately got stuck before crossing the pass, as the consequences of a slide on the icy Buttermere side do not bear thinking about.
“The team were able to help get their car to the side of the road before returning the three – one of whom is six months pregnant – back to Keswick in a winter-equipped four wheel drive Sprinter.”
It was Keswick Mountain Rescue Team’s 10th call out of 2025
