Keswick Town Council is to put out a social media post ahead of any future tree management work in order to explain the reasoning to concerned residents in advance.
It follows criticism that the council received online following the axing of trees in Fitz Park and particularly with the recent removal of a horse chestnut tree.
At the latest meeting of the parks trust, councillors heard that when the horse chestnut tree was felled it was evident that it needed felling due to the amount of damage honey fungus had caused. The meeting heard that the action taken was clearly the correct thing to do to prevent risk to life.
Trustees were told that the parks manager, Christine Fawcett, works closely with the Lake District National Park Authority’s tree officer who regularly visits the parks to discuss the trees which require management.
The parks manager also reminded trustees that some trees which were planted when Fitz Park was founded were coming to the end of their natural life span.
