Remedial resurfacing work is to be carried out on a key road through a north Lakeland village after initial works did not meet “an acceptable standard”.
Motorists are once again to be faced with the inconvenience of the B5389 in Low Lorton being closed during the day (8am to 5pm) to allow Cumberland Council’s contractor, DSD Construction Limited, to carry out the repairs.
A local authority spokesperson said that it is important Cumberland Council is seen to hold its suppliers to act when works do not meet an acceptable standard. The repairs, which will run from Monday April 7 to Friday April 11, come at no additional cost to the council.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and road users, the works will be carried out under a daytime road closure. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place and a map is available on One Network.
Access will be maintained at all times for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians, and dismounted cyclists. To help the work to proceed as efficiently and safely as possible, the council requests that vehicles are removed from the area from 7.30am to 5.30pm each day.
Temporary bus stop relocations will be clearly signed at affected stops. For further information regarding bus services, passengers are advised to contact Stagecoach directly.
The spokesperson added: “Cumberland Council recognises that the B5289 is a key route, and while some short-term disruption is unavoidable, every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience. The council is working closely with local stakeholders, including parish councils and local members, to support those affected.”
