Threlkeld’s community-owned cafe has reopened after refurbishment, with an event celebrating its expanded kitchen, menu and catering offer.
The Coffee Shop is a community interest company wholly owned by the charity that owns the village hall. It gives preference to local people for employment, local suppliers for materials and uses Fairtrade products where possible. All profits are given back to the village hall and wider community – including Threlkeld CE Primary School and local sports teams.
At a relaunch event, 80 people celebrated the fully reopened facility, with a second kitchen, new furniture, an expanded menu, sound absorption panels and reopened car park.
The kitchen extension means the coffee shop can offer whole takeaway cakes and tray-bakes, and catering for meetings held in the village hall.
Volunteer director Adam Bazire said: “The coffee shop is a really important part of the village community and economy. We have supported the village hall financially since we opened in 2014 and are now set to continue that support into the future.”
