The red carpet is being rolled out at Keswick’s Alhambra cinema this Saturday evening (April 26) for the latest film to have its premiere there.

This time it is for a short film made almost entirely at the cinema called Beyond the Eye. It is described as a psychological thriller and has been made by 26-year-old film-maker, and member of the Alhambra staff team – Joe J Walker.

Joe has already garnered significant media interest in the film and the story behind it was recently featured on BBC Look North and Radio Cumbria. What’s more, a documentary film-maker has been following Joe on his journey. The resulting short documentary will also be premiered on Saturday after the film.

Joe started writing the script in November and says he is now “really excited to be able to show everyone what we’ve been working on”.

Co-owner of the Alhambra Cinema, Jonathan Moore said: “Joe is incredibly enthusiastic about cinema and film so we are delighted to be able to support him in this fantastic venture.

“To be able to premiere the film in the place that it was shot is the icing on the cake.”

In addition to Beyond the Eye the evening will feature two more locally made films.

The evening will kick off with a fascinating new short film made by Paul Johnston for Bassenthwaite Lake Station, which tells the story of the Keswick to Cockermouth stretch of the railway. Using drone footage of the area as well as lots of film and photos from when the line was operating, the film paints a fascinating picture of a bygone era.

And finally, the ever-popular film George will close the evening of locally made films. Featuring local fell-runner Jakob Tonkin and his wonderful dog in whose honour the film is named. It’s a moving story about the relationship between man and dog and features stunning footage of the pair running through the Lake District.
