A new steak restaurant in Keswick has had a sizzling start since it threw open its doors to customers on May 1.
Curious diners have beat a path to the Steak of the Lakes in the former Sally’s Cottages premises, in St John’s Street, and on Saturday night the 24-seat eatery was fully booked.
“Things are going really good, the restaurant has been very well received,” said Jim O’Neil, who is running the steakhouse with his sons Connor (front of house) and Callum (trainee chef). “We were fully booked on Saturday and it was a lovely, lovely night with a lot of locals, friends and walk-ins.”
It is Jim’s first experience of running a restaurant having run pubs in the past.
“We have done a lot of market research with friends and family and people that we know through previous industries and every time we have mentioned to somebody our plans they have been very supportive saying it’s exactly what the town needs,” said Jim, who hails from Newcastle and has lived in the Lake District for 22 years. “We are just getting established and providing excellent steaks in the area.”
As well as steaks, the restaurant also caters for vegans and pescatarians (somebody who maintains a vegetarian diet with the addition of fish and other seafood) and there is a children’s menu. Five members of staff are currently employed there.
A drinks licence was granted by Cumberland Council on April 24.
