A member of Keswick Operatic Society won one of the biggest awards of the night at the NODA North West awards.
After a stellar run last summer, Amy Hall has been crowned the best leading female in a musical for her portrayal of Maria Rainer in The Sound of Music.
NODA North West, the official governing body for amateur theatre that covers an area stretching from Warrington all the way up to the Scottish border, runs annual
awards to celebrate the work of amateur theatre groups.
Amy said that portraying the iconic Maria was pretty scary, adding: “I feel so lucky that the audience was up for accepting my version of her!”
That they most certainly were, with NODA’s report praising her performance as a “masterclass in how to a be leading lady” giving a “tour de force performance that was perfectly suited to the professional stage she was appearing on.”
Amy has been performing with KAOS for several years now. She says the society is “like an extended family year-round.”
“Throughout rehearsals they’re supportive, ambitious and hard working” she said and described performing in their shows as being “a week of absolute joy.”
She has been rehearsing for the upcoming KAOS production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, in which she is playing Christine who, according to Amy, is “in many ways quite different to Maria.
“I’m relieved that Christine isn’t quite so iconic if I’m honest, with not such big shoes to fill,” she said.
Amy and KAOS are having an enjoyable time preparing to perform Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, a show she says is “quirky, laugh-out-loud and goes at a million miles a minute with twists and turns that will be all the more exciting for those who don’t know what to expect”.
She and the rest of KAOS will be performing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at Theatre by the Lake from May 22 to 25.
Tickets are available through the theatre’s website and box office.
