A new car park is taking shape on the Old Mill site and when complete all proceeds from parking fees will go towards Keswick Youth Centre.
Keswick Youth Centre Services is partnering with car park management specialist Ocean Parking to build the new car park on the site of the Old Mill Youth Club which was irreparably damaged in the 2009 floods.
Since then the youth club has been nomadic, operating from Costas, Kong and other places in the town until it found a home in the Rawnsley Centre in June 2023.
Many volunteering hours have since been spent transforming the space to make it ready for the 180 young members who now use the space during three sessions every week.
Planning permission for the car park was granted in 2022 as part of plans to make the youth centre financially more sustainable before attention can be focused on building a purpose-built centre on the site in the future.
Work on clearing the site and laying a new surface started earlier this month and is expected to be finished at the end of May.
