The search is on for the nation’s favourite walk from Keswick.
Lake District Hotels is asking people to recommend their all-time favourite walking route from the town and share the reason why they think it’s the best.
The most popular suggestions will be printed in an updated edition of Hike & Bike with Lake District Hotels, a guide to the best routes in the Lake District which is available for sale from the family-run hotel group’s six venues in Keswick, Borrowdale and Glenridding.
Unusual routes that take you off the beaten track will be highly sought after.
The walks don’t have to come from a guidebook, it can be an unknown trail waiting to be discovered.
From taking you to a favourite beauty spot, to the place that holds fond memories or to a special setting where the views are simply breathtaking, it’s time for walkers to share their favourite trail.
Anyone who recommends a walk will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win a meal for two at The Skiddaw Hotel in Keswick town centre.
Dani Hope, director at Lake District Hotels, said they wanted people to share happy memories of walks on the fells around Keswick, and beside Derwentwater, which is a short walk from the town centre.
She said: “We all have our favourite walks which we return to again and again for different reasons.
“From treasured childhood walks to romantic marriage proposals, the Lake District is a place where people spend holidays, anniversaries and birthdays creating special memories. Or it could be that a walk is your favourite simply because of the spectacular views.
“We want to find the walks which mean the most to people, so we can share the enjoyment that they bring.”
Hike & Bike with Lake District Hotels was created by the hotel group to provide inspiration for guests looking to make the most of the Lake District landscape during their stay. Compiled by award-winning walking writer Viv Crow and local cyclist Chris Hope, all the walks start and finish at one of the group’s hotels.
The updated version of the book, with all new inclusions checked by Viv, is due to be published next year.
All the nominated walking routes should start in Keswick town centre and can also include trips on the Keswick Launches which operate lake cruises on Derwentwater.
The search for Keswick’s favourite walk is being held to mark the launch of the new-look Hikers’ Picnic Board at The Skiddaw Hotel.
