A North Lakes campsite has been added to a nationwide roll of honour for its first-class toilets.
Inspectors who visited Burns Farm Caravan and Camping site at St Johns-in-the-Vale were so impressed by the facilities they gave it Loo of the Year’s prestigious Diamond Award – the highest available to washroom providers, their cleaners and maintainers.
It’s the second high-profile accolade Burns Farm has picked up this year, after being voted Cumbria’s best campsite in Channel 4’s The Perfect Pitch competition.
And according to owner Linda Lamb, it’s welcome recognition for the hard work and investment she and her team have put into the campsite as the hospitality sector emerges from the worst of Covid lockdown.
“We’ve been here for three years and during that time we’ve spent a lot of money upgrading all the facilities to make it a special place for our visitors,” she said.
“The toilet and shower block has been completely renovated, with underfloor heating, private bathrooms and specially-designed disabled facilities.”
The awards were introduced in 1987 to encourage the highest possible standards in all ‘away from home’ washrooms in the UK and Ireland.
To win the Diamond Award, Burns Farm had to satisfy the judges in 91 existing criteria, covering male, female, separate baby change and accessible washroom facilities.
The award will be presented to the team at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull, in January.
