The owner of a Keswick pet accessory shop has been recognised for her achievements at an exclusive gathering at the House of Lords.
Chris Harper, co-founder of Podgy Paws, was one of the guests of honour at the SmallBiz100 event, held to celebrate some of the UK’s most inspiring entrepreneurs.
She received the invitation after growing her business on Tithebarn Street to include two online stores.
Her day out in London included afternoon tea overlooking the Thames and a meeting with Small Business Minister Paul Scully, followed by a reception at the House of Lords.
“We were so honoured to have been included in the Small Biz 100 for 2021,” Chris said. “It has been a difficult and challenging 18 months for small businesses, but despite the set-backs we have continued to develop during these difficult times.
“Taking the business into online retail as well as continuing to develop the bricks and mortar side had brought about new challenges, but been thoroughly enjoyable at the same time.”
The House of Lords event kicked off a week of celebrations ahead of Small Business Saturday, earlier this month.
Small Business Saturday celebrates small business success and encourages consumers to shop local and support businesses in their communities.
Michelle Ovens CBE, director of Small Business Saturday UK said: “Hosting this special event at the House of Lords for amazing businesses like Podgy Paws felt like the best way to say a big thank you for their incredible effort and contribution over these past tough couple of years.’’
