Britain’s most remote house is on the market – if you’ve got £1.5 million to spare.
But you’d better be quick, because it’s also one of the UK’s most viewed properties according to online property portal Rightmove.
Online viewings increased year as people searched for alternatives to city living, and interest spiked last month when Skiddaw House was featured in a popular TV travelogue hosted by Simon Reeve.
As a result, it has come in at number six in Rightmove’s top-10 most viewed properties of 2021.
Situated high on the Lakeland fells above Keswick, Skiddaw House is accessible by foot or 4×4 vehicle only. Built in 1829 as a hunting lodge for the Earl of Egremont, the six-bedroom property is currently used as a youth hostel.
Property expert Tim Bannister said: “This year in property has really been like no other. We’ve seen people imagining the life that could be in the countryside, looking at what’s on offer by the coast, and more recently, reigniting their curiosity about the city.
“Britain continues to have a real fascination with property this year, and a passion for homes of varying designs, layouts and locations.”
Situated in 3.45 acres in the remote area known as Back O’Skidda, Skiddaw House is 11 miles from Keswick, 28 miles from Penrith and 25 miles from Carlisle.
On the ground floor, there is a lounge, porch, washroom, shower, toilet, kitchen dining area, store room, reception room, living room and a store room.
On the first floor, there are four bedrooms, two living rooms, a shower room and a toilet.
According to Rightmove the property “really does give a new meaning to privacy, and is ideal for someone who is more than happy with their own company.”
