She’s been described as a pocket rocket for her unbridled energy and enthusiasm.
Now Kerry Regan is hoping 2022 will see her become one of Keswick’s youngest hospitality industry entrepreneurs.
Aged just 22, Kerry is the owner of The Pocket Café Bar, a buzzing new venue on Lake Road which specialises in craft beers, home-made pizzas and live music every night of the week.
Having initially opened for business last September, The Pocket reopened this week after a major month-long refurbishment – and with Covid restrictions now lifted Kerry says it’s all systems go.
“We had a really successful few months, but having closed during January I was a bit nervous about whether people would come back,” she said.
“But opening night was rammed, and it was great to welcome so many old and new faces.”
Kerry, whose parents David and Claire live in Caldbeck, is no stranger to the venue, having worked behind the bar when it was known as Magnolia.
She then went away to study music at Newcastle University – but after securing her degree she learned that the bar, which incorporated its own micro-brewery, was up for sale.
“I just knew I had to have it,” she said. “Originally there were three of us who were going to buy it, but then two dropped out and there was just me.
“I had to arrange a number of loans to raise the money, but people could see I was enthusiastic and meant business.
“Yes, the pressure is on, but we’re offering something really unique in Keswick and the reaction so far has been absolutely fantastic.”
Among the VIP guests at the reopening was Keswick mayor Alan Dunn who said it was great to see a young entrepreneur taking their first steps in business.
He added: “The first thing that strikes you about Kerry is her energy – she’s like a dynamo, and I call her the Pocket Rocket!
“She’s already made an impact on the town’s social scene. And with all her drive and ambition I’m sure Kerry will make a great success of this venture and I wish her and her team the best of look for the future. Also the beer and the pizzas are great!”
