A GRADE II listed guest house in Keswick is the latest to apply to the Lake District National Park Authority to become a holiday let.
The eight-bed Stonegarth at 2 Eskin Street has lodged a change-of-use bid with planners to make the switch.
It comes amid town council concerns and resident unrest that the number of holiday lets in the town has now reached tipping point – leaving no homes for locals and causing disturbances for residents with guests staying in large unsupervised groups in residential areas.
The application has been lodged on behalf of Dr and Mrs P Cavendar, based in Essex.
Documents with the LDNPA suggest the property, with manager’s accommodation, was marketed for sale as a guest house, but received no takers.
The property would be used for short term holiday letting only.
“There is considerable precedent of recent approvals for similar changes of use in Keswick and the wider area, setting the standards for this change of use,” said an agent for the applicants.
