Weekly coronavirus cases increased by six per cent in Cumbria in the latest figures.
In the week ending March 25, there were 5,233 new cases in Cumbria, an increase of 295 from the previous week.
For the fourth week in a row, Carlisle and South Lakeland had the greatest numbers of new cases.
Cases by district
- Carlisle – 1,210 cases (1,115 per 100,000)
- Barrow-in-Furness – 763 cases (1,143 per 100,000)
- South Lakeland – 1,152 cases (1,098 per 100,000)
- Allerdale – 986 cases (1,008 per 100,000)
- Eden – 506 cases (941 per 100,000)
- Copeland – 616 cases (905 per 100,000)
The England average is 878 cases per 100,000.
Cases by age
- The 50-59 age group had the greatest number of new cases in Cumbria with 1,022 new cases.
- The 30-39 age group had the highest rate of new cases in Cumbria with 1,464 new cases per 100,000 people.
- New cases decreased from the previous week in ages 0-18, remained similar in ages 19-49 and increased in ages 50+.
- The 60-69 age group had the greatest proportional increase (+28%) and the 50-59 age group had the greatest overall increase of +205 cases.
- New cases in the under 50 age group accounted for 54% of total new cases (compared to 61% the previous week).
- Overall, new cases in the under 50 age group decreased by 6%, while new cases in the 50+ age group increased by 25%.
Hospital admissions
The following data is for the week ending March 28.
- The number of new patients admitted with COVID-19 in North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) increased by 34 from the previous week while the average number of patients with COVID-19 in beds in NCIC increased by 13 from the previous week.
- The number of new patients admitted with COVID-19 in University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) increased by four from the previous week and the average number of patients with COVID-19 in beds in UHMB increased by three from the previous week.
Deaths
In the week ending March 18, there were six deaths with COVID-19 mentioned on the death certificate.
