A well-known face in Keswick has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Jean Scott (nee Hudson) was born in South Shields on April 14 1922 and attended South Shields Grammar School.
She married John Douglas Scott in 1944 and was happily married for 55 years until he died in March 1999.
They had one child called Pamela who was born on November 27 1950, who also died on December 25, 2021.
Jean worked as a telephonist and postmistress in South Shields.
They moved to Keswick in 1968 and Jean worked as a postmistress in Keswick for 27 years while Doug worked as an electrician.
They then decided to buy a guest house on Eskin Street and ran it for several years.
She was also involved with the Drop-In centre in Keswick and helped run the tea shop.
Now at the Kirklands Care Home, in Cockermouth, she is a very keen artist and did plate painting and also created decorative greetings cards.
Jean is part of a very large family and with her having such a good memory she can remember all the family members and their stories.
Close friend Helen Reb said of Jean: “She’s still got a twinkle in her eye, a great sense of humour and a brilliant memory.”
