Nearly 7,000 homes and businesses across Keswick were affected by this morning’s power cut, Electricity North West has revealed.
In an update to this morning’s incident, officials confirmed that power to 6,800 properties originally went down, while power has since been restored to 2,600.
It follows an apparent fire at the town’s electricity sub-station on Station Road between the leisure centre and the Keswick Country House Hotel with ENW confirming that smoke had been seen.
The spokesman said: “A power cut at 9.10am affected 6,800 properties in the Keswick area. We have restored power to around 2,600 properties by rerouting supplies via other parts of the network, and we will continue working to restore supplies. The fire service is currently on site after reports of smoke.
Customers can call 105 to register for updates.
At the scene earlier were two fire crews, police officers and three Electricity North West vans.
Power is estimated to be restored at 7pm, Electricity North West said.
