Keswick School’s new head girl Ella Horne and head boy Cameron Wear talk about their aims for the next 12 months as students get back to life post-coronavirus
Keswick School has a long history of prefects, dating back over 120 years.
This is a tradition that continues to this day. Prefects support younger students and teachers in school; volunteering their time to organise events, help out in subjects or just being a friendly face to guide the younger years.
All the prefects and senior prefects at Keswick school aspire to be role models by embodying the school’s traditional values. We are proud to be a part of such a respectful, friendly and caring group of young people, who have volunteered to give back and help add to the strong sense of community.
Of the original 90 sixth form applicants, 15 students were appointed to the following roles: head boy and girl; deputy head boy and girl; heads of years seven, eight, and nine; heads of duty and heads of charity.
As the current head boy and head girl, our main aim for the next 12 months is to help students thrive in school and encourage involvement in the diverse range of opportunities on offer across all year groups. This is a really exciting time at Keswick School, as societies and school trips start to run again after the pandemic.
There is no doubt that COVID-19 affected the mental health of many young people, which is why it is another one of our priorities to ensure that every student can talk to a fellow pupil, through the mental health prefect role.
This will be in an informal and friendly manner to find what is troubling them, without the pressure of seeing a teacher. Whether this is exam stress or a worry about something outside of the classroom, our team of prefects will be more than happy to lend a hand in any way we can.
We hope that in the coming year the current student body will be able to take full advantage of the fantastic extracurricular clubs and societies that are on offer, whether it be taking part in the bar mock trial, being a member of the school’s rugby team or even taking part in the school’s band night.
We hope that every student will be able to find an activity of interest, as well as feeling fully supported in both their academic and mental welfare.
