A Keswick School student will be hosting a Christmas dinner to raise funds for a four-week trip he is taking to Ecuador.
Thirteen-year-old Lewis Edwards will be travelling to South America’s west coast with Camps International for a month of personal development and charitable project work.
He has organised the dinner to take place on Saturday December 3 at The Chalet Restaurant in Portinscale. It will consist of a four-course dinner and a prize raffle.
In Ecuador Lewis will be undertaking community development work, wildlife and environmental conservation and a personal challenge, trekking in the Amazon.
The core objectives of the expedition are to undertake projects in order to raise the educational standards of developing communities within a rural district of Ecuador and assist with ongoing wildlife conservation programmes to preserve biodiversity and protect vulnerable habitats on the Galapagos Islands.
“I am really excited about the event planned and all the money I’m going to raise for my expedition to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands,” said Lewis. “I am only 13 so will be just 15 years old when the trip comes around so I will be one of the youngest members on the expedition.
“It is quite nerve racking to be travelling so far from home but this was an opportunity I didn’t want to miss. Being able to experience a totally different culture and way of life whilst helping out with community projects and conservation work is something I am really looking forward to. We hope to be running a number of fundraising events over the coming months so please get involved if you can.”
