Specialist teams have been working over the weekend to tackle fallen trees which shut a section of the Keswick to Threlkeld trail.
The Lake District National Park Authority has said the work continues to be “difficult”, but that good progress has been made.
It said the bridge handrails and deck had been damaged in the incident, while the ground where the trees had fallen from is potentially unstable.
“As soon as the site is clear and safe we will be looking to repair the bridge and will get the bank assessed as soon as we are able to do so.
“Unfortunately, this means the trail from the junction near Wescoe (Brundholme Bottoms) through to Threlkeld will remain closed the rest of this week at least whilst we fully assess damage and undertake repairs. We ask that people avoid this area and take notice of safety barriers and information signs,” the spokesman said.
