Two toy-related sales are to be held at a north Lakeland auction house this spring.
Bidding by enthusiasts is expected to be brisk at Mitchells in Cockermouth when the sales get underway.
First off is a vintage and antique toy and model sale on Thursday February 16 which features private collections of several good quality wooden pond yachts, a variety of Triang rocking horses, Pedigree Sindy dolls and some interesting retro gaming devices among many other items.
A single owner collection of several good quality wooden pond yachts from Whitehaven includes a 19th/20th century boat measuring approximately 46 inches long with sails, a distinctive gold stripe and named What Next? which has an estimate of £500-£600.
A 1980s Nintendo table top Donkey Kong JR game with its original box and card insert is expected to sell for £200-£300. Two Triang Gee Gee rocking horse rockers with coloured metal frames, from a single owner collection of Triang rocking horses comprising 10-15 lots, should make £20 to £30.
Among the dolls, an early 1965 Pedigree Sindy doll wearing a Weekenders outfit, one of several Pedigree Sindy doll lots, should make £50 to £80 and two vintage Sasha dolls – Cora and Caleb – both with brown and white stringing and wearing outfits have an estimate of £120 to £180 for the pair.
Movie-themed toys for sale include a Sideshow WETA The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring ¼ scale maquette of the Helm of Sauron with an estimate of £80 to £120.
Then later in the spring, Mitchells will also be holding a special one-off sale of model railways and railwayana on Thursday April 13. This sale comprises a large single owner collection of model locomotives, tracks and other railwayana from a deceased estate in west Cumbria.
The substantial private collection totals hundreds of lots, many in original boxes and in excellent condition. Highlights will include original railway signage from Cockermouth station which closed in 1966 just before the demise of the railway line from Penrith to the west coast.
An illustrated online catalogue is available two weeks prior to both sales where browsers can view the lots and bid online at www.the-saleroom.com/Mitchells. Lots will also be on view in the saleroom the day before each sale from 10am to 7pm and throughout the auction. Anyone requiring further information about lots featured in either sale should contact James Moore on 01900 827800.
Entries are now invited for Mitchells next Antiques & Fine Art Sale in March with a closing date of Tuesday February 21 and its country sporting sale in April with a closing date of Friday March 10. Contact Mitchells on 01900 827800 for free valuations of items for sale.
