Keswick Music Society’s first concert of its 2023 spring season brings an extraordinary collaboration between a violinist and guitarist.
The concert at the Theatre by the Lake on Tuesday, at 7.30pm, will be given by the internationally acclaimed violinist Harriet Mackenzie, and James Boyd, one of the very finest classical guitarists playing today.
A violin and guitar duo is a fascinating partnership and no musicians are better suited to this: Harriet is a multi-faceted virtuoso, performing as soloist and in chamber music world-wide with “captivating, searing intensity and full of panache” (The Strad), and James was long ago awarded the Julian Bream prize, by the great maestro Bream himself, in recognition of his extraordinary talent and unique artistry.
They will perform both original works for violin and guitar, and also arrangements of compositions which will present them anew, including music by Bach, Paganini, Barrios, De Falla, and Piazzolla.
This is the first of four KMS concerts on Tuesday evenings in 2023, followed by dates in March, May and June, and marks a return to the theatre after the Covid disruptions.
