The Christian charity which runs the annual Keswick Convention has a new man in charge.
Dr Jeremy McQuoid has been appointed chairman of trustees at Keswick Ministries and will start his role on 1st August following this year’s Virtually Keswick Convention, taking place online from 27th-31st July.
“I’m both humbled and excited to be joining the board of trustees at this time,” said Jeremy. “This is an important period in Keswick Ministries’ 145-year history as we move to a new site, extend our work into teaching and training and focus on supporting local churches. I’m also keen that the benefits of the convention continue to be shared with the town of Keswick,” he added.
Jeremy, whose parents were Christian missionaries in Ethiopia, is pastor at Deeside Christian Fellowship in Aberdeen and was previously pastor at Thornhill Church in Cardiff. His wife Elizabeth has been a trustee of Keswick Ministries for the last 10 years and is commissioning editor of its publications.
He succeeds Tim Chester, who is due to retire after three years. Trustee David Gascoigne paid tribute to Tim’s “faithful and inspirational leadership through an important period of growth and transition.”
The annual summer convention normally lasts three weeks, attracting around 12,000 people to Keswick from all over the UK and across the world. It was cancelled this year because of coronavirus restrictions. Instead, a five-day online event will take place.
Next year, the convention is due to take place for the first time entirely on its new single-site home at Keswick’s former pencil factory, which is undergoing a multi-million redevelopment. Besides the convention, Keswick Ministries also organises teaching and training events all year round and also supports the worldwide Keswick Fellowship network.
