Cinema goers are being treated to a special free screening of the nature film Riverwoods at the Alhambra in Keswick this evening (March 3).
It is narrated by Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi and tells the story of the special relationship between Atlantic salmon and woodland, and how Scotland’s rivers have been greatly diminished but crucially, how they could be reborn through a shared vision of restoration and recovery.
The film, which is being shown at 5.30pm, includes spectacular underwater footage and beautiful scenery to tell this extraordinary story.
The one-hour documentary will be followed by a question-and-answer session with West Cumbria Rivers Trust fisheries officer, Ruth Mackay, and freshwater ecologist Tommy McDermott, who was involved with the film’s creation.
“Riverwoods is a remarkable film. It shows the struggle of the salmon in amazing detail and really brings home the vital importance of rivers to our environment and wildlife,” said Ruth.
“Even though the film focuses on Scotland’s rivers, the messages are exactly the same for our rivers here in Cumbria, they are also home to populations of Atlantic salmon and we need to do all we can to protect them now. West Cumbria Rivers Trust has organised this special free screening in partnership with the Keswick Alhambra, to help raise awareness of the importance of rivers as wildlife habitats, and what we can all do to help keep them healthy and safe.”
