The funeral of a man who ran one of Keswick’s longest-running and best-loved shops will take place next Friday (March 17).
Robert Youdale died at his Main Street home on Saturday, aged 66. The Keswick Reminder reported his retirement from running his business on Main Street selling newspapers, tobacco, and fishing tackle last October.
He had run the business since the 1980s and had built up a loyal customer base. Mr Youdale said that he would not miss getting up at five o’clock every morning to open up.
The shop was established in 1959 by Robert’s father, Peter. Robert was a huge angling enthusiast and was regarded as one of the best match fishermen in the north of England.
A service and cremation will take place at the Eden Valley Crematorium on March 17, at 11am. Donations in memory of Robert which will be divided between Guide Dogs for the Blind and Cancer Research UK.
