A survey of the British public has revealed that the A591, which runs through the heart of the Lake District, is considered to be the best road to drive in the UK.
Nearly a fifth of the 2,000 (18 per cent) polled by electrical retailer AO put the picturesque route from Keswick to Kendal at the top of their list of scenic highways. But AO drivers, who travel100,000 miles each day delivering appliances to customers in 99 per cent of all UK postcodes, put the A9 between Perth and Inverness at the top of their list.
But both delivery drivers and the public agreed that the M6 (26 per cent) and M25 (36 per cent) motorways are the worst roads to drive in the UK.
More than half (54 per cent) of Brits chose the best road based on the picturesque scenery, whereas over a third (36 per cent) picked a road that was fun to drive. When it came to the worst roads, 58 per cent chose their road based on the constant traffic and it always being busy.
The research also revealed that while over a third of Brits (35 per cent) go for a drive to get from A to B, one in five (19 per cent) choose to go for a drive to simply relax and unwind.
