It’s time to spread the news and rock the pews and visit Keswick’s Theatre by The Lake to get that Sunday Morning Fever.
Based on the beloved film Sister Act, Keswick Amateur Operatic Society’s production of music, mishaps and nuns on the run is a joyous and uplifting tale of finding your voice and singing out, with your sisters by your side.
Nightclub singer Deloris Van Cartier has witnessed a gangland killing. The cops put her in protective custody in the one place they are sure she will never be found: a convent!
Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent, Deloris breathes new life into the church, the community and the power of her newly-found sisterhood. But will the mob catch up with her?
Among the cast is the talented Cole Kelly as Deloris. Cole has previously played Wednesday Addams in KAOS Musical Theatre Company’s production of The Addams Family. She is looking forward to all the glitz and glamorous costumes this time round.
Mother Superior is played by Sara Royle, who is headteacher at Bassenthwaite Primary School and can be found most play times shouting prayers at passing children.
Her favourite line in the show is: “Heavenly Father, you are throwing quite a few curve balls my way.”
James Hutchinson, who plays cop Eddie Souther, said: “If I wasn’t in this production I would 100 per cent have my ticket booked for a night out with my friends. It’s so much fun, such a feel-good show and I think everybody can relate to the characters in one way or another.”
Tickets for the show which runs from May 4 to 7 are available at https://www.theatrebythelake.com/event/sister-act
