Keswick town councillors have made a commitment to make a representation to the new Cumberland Council to repair a popular footpath.
It comes after a member of the public, Leonard Will, complained about the state of the Howrahs footpath which runs between Keswick and Portinscale, at the annual town meeting.
He said that when it rains heavily it is difficult to get along the path dry shod because of the deep puddles.
“I have raised the matter with county council highways and they said it’s not a pavement and therefore it’s not worth considering doing something about because it is a country path and you can expect puddles,” said Mr Will. “But the water in those puddles goes over boots and shoes.”
Cllr David Burn said the path had been repaired twice with surplus monies from the toilets company and wondered if there was a company or firm that had surplus materials (grit) to repair it again.
But it was pointed out that if that was going to be washed away “it becomes and endless task.”
It was agreed to accept the resolution that Cumberland Council be approached to repair the path and carry on with this responsibility into the future.
