A planning inspector has dismissed an appeal against the owners of a Keswick guest house.
Mr and Mrs C Woods, of West View, The Heads, were turned down for planning permission by the national park authority in December.
They applied for permission to create a single-storey extension to enhance the kitchen and owners’ accommodation.
But the national park decided that the proposed extension would be too close to a neighbouring property, Lane Rigg House, a residential house.
As a result it would be “overbearing” and cause “harmful” level of overlooking, national park planners decided.
The applicants appealed against the national park’s decision, but now an inspector has upheld the original decision to refuse.
The inspector concluded the extension would have “an unacceptable impact on the living conditions of residents of the neighbouring property at Lane Rigg House”.
