The largest ever sale of vintage and antique toys, trains and die-cast models is to take place at Mitchells in Cockermouth next weekend.
At the sale on Thursday August 3 there will be approximately 700 quality lots going under the hammer,
Following the success of their specialist model railways sale earlier in the year, this sale features four private collections of model railways, locomotives and railwayana.
The most valuable lots to be auctioned are likely to be O gauge locomotives of which there are several with estimates ranging from £200 to £600.
The highest estimated lots are a gas powered Caradoc steam locomotive with remote control, in working order, which is expected to sell for £400 to £600 and a brass construction Black Five locomotive with its original box which should also make £400 to £600. Another O gauge boxed brass unpainted 2-6-0 Crab locomotive has an estimate of £200 to £300.
Other valuable locomotives include a Bing 1 gauge live steam 0-4-0 locomotive circa 1902 with LNWR tender circa 1906 with an estimate of £300 to £500 and a Rapido OO gauge boxed steam locomotive, GNR, Sterling single No.1 which could make £200 to £300.
Among the railwayana for sale is a cast metal wagon plate marked: “LNER 21 tons, 1944 Darlington 269092” with an estimate of £30-£50.
Unusual lots to be sold include a rare 18th century country craft carved wood carnival head or scarecrow with an estimate of £100-£200 and a Gabrielle Design 1980s Paddington Bear in a rugby outfit which could make £80-£120.
Other notable items include bundles of Britains diecast farm models including tractors, trailers, harvesters, manure spreaders and feeder wagons with each lot having an estimate of around £50-£80.
A late 1950s Triang Monte Carlo pedal car requiring restoration with an operational mechanism and detached steering wheel and a Dinky Slumberland guy van, No 514 with red hubs and smooth tyres, should both make £40-£60.
